Which of the 7 habits has the most meaning for you?
The 7 habits that have the most meaning for me are Be
Proactive, Begin with the end in mind, First seek to understand, then be
understood, and Sharpen the Saw.
Be Proactive: was
meaningful to me because none on the other habits matter if you cannot do this
one. Being proactive means that you can take charge, take the lead, and move
forward. I am not always good at this. I often let my husband lead or
even my friends. I get concerned I will disappoint others somehow. It is not
that I don't ever take charge, I feel like I need to more often. I am confident
in my ability to lead and move forward. I feel like opportunities that have
come along that I do get to lead, I do a good job. Being proactive is the most
important element of achieving mastery.
Begin With the End in Mind: is envisioning obtaining an end result and knowing how
you are going to get there. One of my end results right now is receiving a bachelor’s
degree from BYU-Idaho. In my mind I envision completing each class and being
able to drive to Rexburg, Idaho to walk at my graduation. Even though it is a long
way off from now, keeping this vision in mind pushes me forward to the end
result.
First Seek to Understand, Then Be
Understood: Listening intently is an important part of this
habit. We must understand what is being said before goals can be set and action
can be taken. We must respect other people if we want people to respect us too.
Sharpen the Saw: Jim Ritchie said about this habit, "As we are continuing to strive to develop and perfect these habits, we
need to pause along the way and sharpen the saw, regroup, rejuvenate, eat,
sleep, read, exercise, study, listen, and get better prepared to face the world
and continue the battle to the top."
Why will the 7 habits help you fill your life
with passion and purpose as you seek to achieve both a private and public
victory?
The 7 habits will help me fill my life with passion and
purpose as I seek to achieve both a private and public victory by keeping
me on the journey to mastery. These seven habits are essential to understanding
how to get to where I want to go without getting burnt out. These habits will
keep me moving toward my mark by helping me keep my "why" in the
forefront of my mind.
